Jean W. (Yaffe) Lieberman of Manchester, and Delray Beach, FL passed peacefully at her home surrounded by her children in Manchester on Sunday (March 18, 2007) after a year-and-half battle with lung cancer. She leaves her husband, Morton, her children, Philip Karlin and his wife, Rhonda of West Hartford; Rebecca Karlin Fox of South Windsor and Joshua Karlin of Providence, RI, a step-daughter, Andrea Lieberman Heitzman of Hanover, NH, and four beloved grandchildren, Jonah, Daniel and Nina Karlin and Noah Fox. She is also survived by two of her three sisters, Ruth Radin of Center Valley, PA and Ester “Sis” Rothenberg of Delray Beach, FL. She was pre-deceased by her sister, Miriam “Mimi” Cohn.
Jean became an accomplished tennis player and was always in high demand as a doubles partner by her children, friends, and husband. She was an avid bridge player and a voracious reader, having been the head librarian of Sadd Memorial Library in South Windsor. Jean loved to travel throughout the world and yet loved bird watching on simple nature walks near her home. She attended the University of Connecticut and was a fanatic Huskies fan. Her greatest joys were her grandchildren and the Husky Men and Women’s basketball teams. A lifelong Democrat, her biggest disappointments were with Joe Lieberman for going independent, and with her youngest son for becoming a republican.
